Our Story

The Journey of The English Coin Company

When I was 8 years old, I stumbled upon my Grandad’s wallet in his garage, filled with old pre-decimal coins. This discovery sparked my interest in coins, and together with my Grandad, I began learning about their history. What fascinated me most was that each coin had its own story—some passed down through generations and others long forgotten.

As I grew older, my passion for coins remained, and by the age of 18, I began coin dealing on a small scale while working full-time as a manager for a local company. However, as my job took priority, I had to set aside my hobby. Although I stopped dealing coins, the love for it never left me.

In 2012, I met Lindsey, who would soon become my wife. At the time, I was managing my own webmaster company. Lindsey noticed that I needed a hobby outside of work, so I followed her advice and returned to coin collecting. What started in our spare bedroom quickly reignited my passion for coins. Within six months, my collection was growing, and so was the demand for old coins. I was surprised by the level of interest, and that’s when The English Coin Company was born.

A year later, we were expecting our first child, and I had to move my coin collection from the spare room to the garage to make space for the nursery. In 2014, our daughter was born, and the demand for coins continued to grow. Juggling family life and the business was challenging, with me working seven days a week, sometimes for 12 hours a day. It became clear I needed help, so I hired my first employee to assist with packing and dispatching orders.

Since those early days in the garage, The English Coin Company has grown into a thriving business. We have now established ourselves as a LTD company and launched Coin Gift Shop, our sister company specialising in coin gifts and jewellery. I currently employ three staff members who help with packing, dispatching, polishing, and creating coin-related gifts. We sell pre-decimal and modern coins worldwide, from the United States to Australia, and everywhere in between—not only to collectors but also to dealers and businesses.

In addition to selling coins, I continue to buy and value coin collections, which I love because it allows me to hear the unique stories behind each collection and how they were acquired. In 2016, after many requests, we launched our brand-new website, and looking ahead to 2017, the future of The English Coin Company looks brighter than ever.
